Google AI Studio

Google AI Studio gives you free access to Gemini models — no credit card required. This guide walks you through creating an API key and connecting it to FeedPidgin.

Google AI Studio is free with generous rate limits. You can upgrade to a paid plan later if you need higher throughput.
1

Open Google AI Studio

Go to aistudio.google.com and sign in with your Google account.

If prompted, accept the terms of service to continue.

2

Create an API key

In the left sidebar, click Get API key. Then click Create API key.

You can use an existing Google Cloud project or let AI Studio create one. Either works fine.

Your key will look like this

AIzaSyD_xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Copy your key immediately — you won't be able to view the full key again after leaving this page.
3

Open FeedPidgin Settings

Log in to FeedPidgin and go to Settings. Click the AI tab in the left sidebar.

4

Enter your API key

  1. Select Google Gemini from the Provider dropdown.
  2. Choose a model — Gemini 2.5 Flash is recommended.
  3. Paste your API key into the API Key field.
  4. Click Save Settings.

Your API key is stored encrypted and is only used to make requests to Google's API on your behalf.

5

Test it

Open any article in your feed and click Quick Brief (or press B). The AI will generate a summary using your Gemini key.

If you see API key not valid, double-check that you copied the full key including the AIzaSy prefix.
